Lord Davenport picked up the painting and looked at it against the light.

“You know, Mr. Stewart,” he said to the artist in a dubious tone “I still don’t get it.”

“Art has to be felt,” Graham Stewart replied with a chuckle, “not understood, Your Lordship. Give it some time, it’ll grow on you, I promise.”

Lord Davenport looked indulgently at the pretty girl beside him, and said, “I only came here because my niece Emily insisted on it. This is my gift to her. She turns 18 tomorrow.”

And becomes the sole owner of my brother’s estate,” thought Lord Davenport bitterly, though he kept beaming with apparent affection at his niece, “and that is why she will be involved in an unfortunate ‘accident’ on our way back to the Manor today.”

Completely unaware of her uncle’s diabolical plot, Emily hugged him tightly, as if for the very last time.

For she knew that the undetectable poison on the frame of the painting would have seeped into his skin by now, and he would be dead by tomorrow. 10 Million Pounds of life insurance money, a huge estate, and Graham as her husband, what else could a girl want on her birthday!
