Home Invasion

I could smell them long before they came in, dirty, stinky creatures all of them.

“Not in my home, not in my home,” I prayed with all my might, but the almighty must have been fast asleep, for they made their way straight towards my entrance. A pity, for HE too would have found it impossible to rest (even on the 7th Day after creating the universe) amidst the din that I was sure would ensue in just a few minutes.

It had started with the rats, but those I could still bear. They were quiet, docile and clean, at least when compared to these pests. But now, he had gone too far!

I quickly looked around for possible means of escape, but there were none. They had entered through the front, and there was no back door to my home, just a solid wall. They were close now, I could hear some of them now. Soon, the deluge would be impossible to survive.

I turned around, and looked at the wall again. Did I dare? In these closed surroundings? Was it safe?

Bah! Cannot possibly be more unsafe than the fate I was trying to escape from.

And as the first one crossed the threshold of my room, I crossed the threshold of my composure. In sheer panic, I blew out with all my might at the back wall…and the flames from my mouth blasted through the cave with a loud explosive noise.

Anyone passing by would have been scared out of his wits on seeing a dragon run out of a cave, but not as scared as the dragon herself, who was running with her tail between her wings, trying to escape the children that the Pied Piper of Hamelin had brought along to hide in her cave!

  10. Haha.. I loved the line “and as the first one crossed the threshold of my room, I crossed the threshold of my composure”.

This was such a beautiful little tale packed with humour and suspense!
