The Peace Summit

PHOTO PROMPT © Fatima Fakier Deria

I looked with pride at the six chairs, one each for the Heads of State of the six most powerful nations of the world.

They had been on the brink of war before I somehow managed to get them to this Peace Summit. I had personally overseen all arrangements to ensure that absolutely nothing could disturb their fragile egos, and start another World War.

They came out into the lawns now, ready for their evening tea, their dark suits presenting a glorious spectacle against the pristine backdrop of the greenery, and the freshly-painted white chairs.

Freshly-painted…..

OHHHHHH SHIIIIIIIIIIIIT!

  4. neilmacdon says:

    That made me laugh

  5. Iain Kelly says:

It will help break the ice at least 🙂

  6. draliman says:

Well there goes the world then… good one 🙂

  7. Dear Anurag,

I didn’t see that coming. That might put a damper on the peace talks…white paint, dark suits…oh dear.

    Shalom,

    Rochelle

  8. athling2001 says:

HA! Hope those leaders have senses of humor!

  9. lisarey1990 says:

    Love the twist. Great story.

  10. Dale says:

I like to think they all get a laugh out of it…

  11. Hahaha. Lovely ending. He might have to host a peace summit of a different kind.

  12. pennygadd51 says:

    Every detail attended to…
Liked your story, and the twist, Anurag.

  14. Oh shit, you did it. Made me smile.
    Love it.

    Randy

PS What’s going to happen to you now that your story is out?
Will you be wearing fresh stripes yourself? A prison stint for not waiting for the paint to dry?
Shot at noon? A simple demotion? Naw, too easy.
    Banishment?
Hopefully, as this is a peace summit, they will all laugh at themselves and not take it all so seriously – which is the point, no?

  15. Alice Audrey says:

You saying the paint was a little TOO fresh? That’s what the world gets for catering to fragile egos.

  16. plaridel says:

i wonder what they’re gonna do now. paint the town red? 🙂

  17. Now, they have patterns on their backs and targets on their butts. Great ending!

  18. lol Thank you so much for this laugh! Ever so well written!

  19. Anand says:

Can’t let them be seated, can’t make them stand up!🤔

  20. Oh my goodness, such a funny twist! =)

  21. Julie Abeita says:

Well, that would certainly be awkward if they all sat down in those chairs. Wet paint and all.

  22. Russell says:

Too funny at the end there! Nicely done.

  23. James McEwan says:

Peace summit – sounds like another whitewash!

  24. michael1148humphris says:

I only hope they do not notice until they are well and truly stuck down, then they will have to talk. If they are able to that is.🙂

  25. yarnspinnerr says:

🙂 I hope it is that cheap type of paint that is made from lead. Great take.

  26. granonine says:

This is hilarious! All that dignity about to get painted on the backside 🙂

  27. jillyfunnell says:

Love the way you pull back into the absurd here. Very funny.

  28. trentpmcd says:

Since they’ll all have white butts, maybe not a problem, it’s only if they try to blame each other for those white butts that we’ll all be in trouble 😉

  29. gahlearner says:

Hehehe, what a great twist. When they stick to the chairs they can’t press red buttons, ergo: world peace.

  30. Sarah Ann says:

Oh lovely. At least they will all have similarly painted suits. Perhaps they can club together to pay for the dry cleaning bill and peace will ensue.

  31. Ha! love the unexpected last line. He was feeling so confident until he realised the mistake. Oh well. Hopefully the purpose of the meeting will be more important than paint on their suits.

  32. Oh shit… I can see how this turn the mood around… so war instead of peace?

  33. Really liked your story- fluently told with a great surprise ending – ha ha !

  34. Jan Vanek says:

Haha! The image of them standing and walking away together is too funny! I hope they have a sense of humor! 🙂

  35. Laurie Bell says:

Bahahaha loved that last line!! Great twist.

  36. An imaginative take on the photo prompt. I really like the switch at the end ! I can just picture those heads of state, in expensive suits, looking silly. Well done.
