Prom Night

Photo prompt courtesy Sue Vincent

I waited expectantly near the school gate for my boyfriend to come and whisk me away.

Boyfriend….I still can’t get myself to use that word for him. We’d known each other since the first day of school, and today, on our last day here, we would arrive at the Farewell Feast together and announce our relationship.

I’m sure everyone would be shocked. I had always been the strong, dominating girl, and he, a bumbling buffoon. Who could have possibly thought that I would become this sappy teenager who loves everything about her boyfriend…there I said it again….His fiery red hair, his freckles, his blue eyes, even his rather long, but oh-so-cute nose.

Everyone had already left for the Feast. But not us. He was getting his Dad’s special car, to reach the Feast in style. I just love him so much.

Just then, the phone rang. It was him…my love.

“Hello sweetheart!”

“Uhhh…Listen….Darling…there’s been a slight problem….”

“What is it dear?”

“Actually…..I’m at the parking….and just discovered that it shuts down at 6:30pm. And now, I’m stuck here, snowed in.”
