The Puff Piece

I looked across at the CEO of Buzzinga, the most exclusive PR Agency in the world, and said in an even, confident tone, “I’ll have you know, Mr. North, that I did not win my three Pulitzers by writing puff pieces.”

Mr. North explained, “But this is not a puff piece. We just want to share our client’s real achievements with the world. His business has been facing its toughest recession since inception, and we could really do with some help from the Media.”

“I have no interest in supporting an incompetent entrepreneur who has allowed his business to run to the ground,” I replied.

“But he has a big heart, look at his humanitarian work,” North tried to appeal to my better nature now.

Bored of this futile wrangling, I got up abruptly and said, “That’s entirely his problem, Mr. North, and the real reason for his life’s work unraveling before his own eyes, if you ask me. You can tell your client Santa Claus, that I’ll give this story a miss.”

The challenge, hosted by Priceless Joy and Joe, is to write a story in 175 words or less, inspired by the weekly photo prompt.

Note: For those wondering about the connection of the story to the picture, the food items shown in the photograph are known as a Puff in India, short for Puff Pastry I guess. It’s a ubiquitous item in most school/college canteens, as well as bakeries. Fillings typically are some cooked veggies, primarily potatoes (Veg Puff) or chicken.
