The Sanctuary

Photo prompt courtesy J Hardy Carroll

My Ma always used to tell me- When you’re being chased by evil, take sanctuary in the Church. Today, the time had finally come to test her advice.

He was chasing me with a large knife in his hand. I was fast, but he was faster. He swung, and almost scraped the skin off my back. Seeing no other avenue of escape, I leaped into the Church, and banged the door shut.

My heart in my mouth, I peeped through the key-hole.

Phew!

Ma was right. That cunning, cold-blooded, cruel cat Tom could not follow me into this tiny Church.
