The Contract

My trusted bow & arrow in my hands, I was keeping a sharp eye on the cottage discreetly, with the help of a strategically-placed mirror.

The witch would be coming out any minute now, and I would be ready for her.

In my business, timing was everything, so I had studied her routine for weeks before deciding on today as the D-Day.

I knew she would be a tough target, even for me, but a contract was a contract. Gandalf had been very specific that he wanted THIS particular witch to fall in love with him.

95 words.

  14. Dear Anurag,

I never would’ve seen Gandalf as the romantic type. 😉 Imaginative story.

Cupid has his work cut out for him’1 But hey, if Gandalf requested…
    Fun stuff.

  16. subroto says:

Ha! Ha! Nice twist in the end. Never realised Cupid ran a side business of taking ‘supari’ as they say in the underworld.

  17. lisarey1990 says:

    Very entertaining. Great twist.

  18. 4963andypop says:

Your allusion to Cupid did not sail past me! He did sound like an assassin till the last line. She’ll never know what hit her!

  19. Ha…. Gandalf has run out of spells I think.

  20. gahlearner says:

The ending made me laugh out loud. What a beautiful piece of misdirection with such a funny ending. Gandalf in love–what a unique idea.

I love the surprise twist and the end, where we learn the narrator is Cupid!

  22. notestowomen says:
