The Endless Wait

This is my last memory of her. Her last photograph, before she was taken so cruelly from us.

She looks so happy and carefree here, playing with her friends at the Fair. My heart filled with so much love as I saw her cute innocence that I picked up my camera, and started clicking non-stop….till the roll ended.

The weather was acting up slightly, so I called out to her to come home with me.

“Mommy, you go, I’ll come home soon with my friends,” she shouted back.

I had no heart to refuse her request. If only I had been stronger.

She did leave for home at around three in the afternoon, her friends vouched for that. But they wanted to play more, so she went alone, with just her dog by her side.

She was never seen again.

But somehow, even though I know it’s stupid and futile, my heart refuses to accept that she’s gone forever. Something keeps telling me that one day, she will be back, with her friends, as she promised.

All I do is to wait for that day now, the day that my Dorothy and her dog Toto will come back to me.
