The roll call was in full flow. Miss Beatriz, the dynamic Headmistress of the school always took great pride in their discipline.
“Mariana?”
“Present Miss.”
“Miguel?”
“Present Miss.”
“Afonso?”
“Present Miss.”
“Are you seriously planning to go on the field trip like this and spoil the good name of our school?”
“I’m s….sorry Miss Beatriz,” stuttered poor Alfonso.”
” Go home and apply some oil right now. It’s not a sunny day now, but you know that the weather can change anytime in Madeira.”
Alfonso left, and the roll call continued.
Finally, it was time for THE SPEECH, Miss Beatriz’s reason for existence, as some frivolous kids commented in private.
“We are the oldest school in Madeira,” she started off pompously, “and also the best. We have a reputation for discipline, grooming, and imparting life skills to our students. So, even when we go out of school, like on today’s field trip, we must present our best face to the world. Always remember our school’s motto kids: Discipline, Diligence, Distinction.”
The entire school shouted as one,” YES MISS.”
“And one last thing,” cautioned Miss Beatriz, “Don’t get too close to the wild ones during your trip, they look deceptively harmless, but they can be extremely dangerous.”
“YES MISS,” shouted the students again.
“Then let’s start your first field trip,” said Miss Beatriz, “and see some real-life tourists today. Remember, put your best fin forward.”
😀 A different sort of “school.”
The best sorts!
