The Invitation

“Spend some time with me,” she said seductively.

I demurred, “Sorry sweetheart, we cannot give you the love and attention you deserve this time, but we will be back, and that’s a promise.”

“In that case, drinks are on me,” said Paris with a wink.

On a brief layover at the Paris airport, on our way to Lisbon for a month-long Portugal vacation. Cheers 🙂

  1. Are you taking part in Eurovision by any chance?

    • What is Eurovision?

      • The Eurovision Song Contest takes place every year in the country of the previous year’s winner (in 2017 it was Portugal and the final is in Lisbon). The UK are one of four founder members, so it wouldn’t matter if we got NIL points as we automatically go through to the final every year.

      • And as we landed in Lisbon a few hours ago, all we have been seeing and hearing is Eurovision. People have come from across Europe, and are discussing it passionately on metros, and on the streets.

      • You may end up tuning in in your hotel room then. It’s a major event for Portugal as they have never won before and are usually bottom of the scoreboard with Nil Points.
I believe Cyprus is tipped for the top this year, which would be another first time winner if they took the crown.
We’ll probably be listening on the radio.

      • We went for a small part of the event finally, not the live one in the stadium, but a live telecast of the same in the main square of the city wih giant screens, speakers, and thousands of fans from all over.

      • I’m listening to the voting now and the UK is not doing very well, which is a shame bearing in mind what happened.
