XOXO – #AtoZChallenge #BlogchatterA2Z

Dear Xenobia,

I have been meaning to write this letter to you for a very long time now, but every time I tried to put pen on paper, I developed cold feet, and so had to call to a maid to warm them up again with hot towels. Today, I have finally gathered the courage to write in to you, because I think you deserve to know the truth, and also because I am sitting with my feet in boiling water right now.

Both of us grew up together, and spent many a days jumping around in the countless puddles near our homes, and many a nights prancing about in the garden.

Everyone who saw us playing together automatically assumed that we would grow up to be lovers, and eventually get married and make lots of babies together.

And they would have been right in their assumption, at least partly.

I do not know when we moved on from being just friends to ‘madly in love’, but that was the most beautiful phase of my life. Stealing kisses at the lily pond, those cute little messages in code that no one could understand, like XOXO, when all we wanted to say was- I want to hug and kiss you like there’s no tomorrow.

But then, something happened, that changed our lives forever. And it is to explain that incident that I am writing to you today.

It was the morning of our wedding. Both our families were so excited that their dreams, and ours, were finally coming true. I was taking a bath in order to get ready for the ceremony, when suddenly, a woman appeared from nowhere. She saw me, and I don’t know what came upon her that she forced herself upon me, held me tight, and started kissing me passionately. One thing led to another, and I found myself at her place, where I have been living ever since in confinement.

And it was because of that tragic incident, my love, that I had disappeared from your life forever that morning, without being able to even speak to you. I really didn’t have a choice in the matter. I had to marry her, and leave you forever, you have to understand. There was no way that you and I could be together after what had happened.

I don’t know how to get this letter to you, and even if I do figure out a way, I know you will not be able to read it, for while princes can learn to write, frogs cannot learn how to read.

Hope you have a blessed life without me.

The Prince Formerly Known as Frog

Written in response to Sue Vincent’s Thursday Photo prompt. The objective is to write a story or a poem, without any word limit, inspired by a photo from Sue’s personal collection.

This is also my entry for the #AtoZChallenge, and #BlogchatterA2Z/ Today’s letter was a tough one, X, which, in my story, stands for XOXO of course.
