The night was like any other, and when they went to sleep, the husband – wife duo had no idea as to what magic the morrow would herald.
It was Ganesh Chaturthi the next day, as the crescendo of drum beats across the city was politely informing them, lest they missed the memo. It was their favorite festival, for it meant a public holiday. Last week, their favorite festival had been Navroze, or Parsi New Year, since that too had been a holiday.
They kept drifting in and out of sleep, with crazy, hazy hallucinations keeping them company. That was strange, they thought as they tried to grab their sleep back at frequent intervals, what were these visions of empty, wet streets in twilight, and long cues inside a huge building?
They suddenly woke up with a start then, completely disoriented, or disorientated if you prefer. They looked around to get their bearings, and were shocked out of their wits… They were at the Bombay airport, on their way to their favorite destination – Out of India.
And it was then that they realized what must have happened. For, you see, Ganesh Chaturthi is a celebration of the Elephant God Ganesh, and when he heard them say at night that it was their favorite festival (but missing the context thankfully), he had decided to reward them with a small miracle of his own, tailor made for them! He was sending them to the Elephant Kingdom – Thailand!
