The Invasion

Note: Originally published on Facebook on June 13

I got off the ship and started walking around the cute, little town
When something happened that turned my bright smile into a dark frown
For it suddenly started raining reindeers, moose and whales
And, soaked to my skin, I could see no end to my travails

My brief was clear- to inspect the land which my people had been forced to leave ages ago
And if conditions were ripe, shift everyone back here in one go
That would obviously mean doing something about the current inhabitants
But in the larger scheme of things, they were just minor irritants

And while I stood in the shelter of an awning, plotting in my usual thoughtful pose
A bespectacled man came and stood next to me, and started patting my head, and pulling my long(and regal) nose
Medha, he called out to his mate, look, he is so cute
And suddenly, my dreams and ambitions came crashing to the ground, like a champagne flute

These humans were no longer afraid of us, nor did they have any respect for our powers
For them, a fearsome king had become ‘cute’, like a teddy bear, or a bunch of flowers
I realized that we were better off living in exile, even though that was not really our nation
And that is how, dear readers, two humble travelers from India unknowingly saved Norway from a troll invasion!
